The African Museum Arts & Cultural Center (AMACC) is a community-centered cultural space in St. Paul dedicated to uplifting African and diasporic voices through art, storytelling, and public programming. The museum and gallery serves as a place for reflection, learning, and connection offering exhibitions and events that respond to lived experience, history, and community needs.

 

AMACC is part of a intiative with the African Economic Development Center and the Little Africa Fest organization, working together to support artists, culture-bearers, and community through creative and economic development.

Voices of Freedom: Creative Journeys Toward Belonging is a multidisciplinary exhibition exploring how individuals and communities define freedom through lived experience. Presented in recognition of America's 250th anniversary as part of the NEA's Freedom250 programming, this exhibition does not frame freedom as a single historical moment.

Lost In Abstraction
Saturday April 18th, 2026

Solo exhibition by Oromo artist Lokho Kotile exploring emotion and rediscovery through abstraction.

Join us for the opening reception of Lost in Abstraction, a solo exhibition by Oromo artist and curator Lokho.

 

This collection explores the artist’s emotional landscape during a period of unrest and uncertainty. Through abstraction, color, and expressive movement, the artist turns to play, curiosity, and creativity as a way of rediscovering herself. Her work invite viewers into a space of reflection, reminding us that even in moments of chaos, art can guide us back to clarity and connection.

In Our Presence

This exhibition featured the work of Kay Heino, Rajine Williams, Arnée Martin, and Jeannine Erickson. Bringing together African American artists across painting, photography, mixed media, and research-based practices, the exhibition explored Black history, memory, and lived experience. Through both personal and collective narratives, the artists reflected on themes of resilience, presence, identity, and community, offering space for reflection and connection.

Rhythms of West Africa: Art in Motion
Saturday, October 25th, 2026

Rhythms of West Africa: Art in Motion celebrates movement, tradition, identity, and the living pulse of West African creativity. Through the works of  exhibiting artists, Love Quetee, Geno Okok, Joy Teah, and Flahn Manly. With portraiture, and mixed media works from local artists, the exhibition highlights stories of resilience, beauty, and cultural memory.

Little Africa Art Residency

Our Art & Culture Initiative is dedicated to uplifting artists, storytellers, and cultural workers within our community by creating spaces for creative expression, dialogue, and connection. Through exhibitions, workshops, and collaborative programming, we center voices and narratives that reflect the richness and diversity of the African diaspora. As part of this initiative, we are proud to introduce the Little Africa Art Residency, a program designed to support emerging and established artists with time, space, and resources to develop their work while engaging with the local community.
